http://school.discovery.com/schooladventures/planetocean/ocean.html
Get some information about sea
creatures and compare them.
Compare their weights, their length, their height and make sentences.
e.g.: The Blue Whale is heavier than the Beluga whale
4- WRITING PRACTICE- ANIMAL PRESENTATIONS
Create PowerPoint presentations with animals in the film or other sea creatures.
Include photographs and the most important facts such as habitat, measurements,
and other important information.
5- FILM SHOTS (CREATIVE WRITING)
The music in DEEP BLUE is very nice and matches the images perfectly.
Try this activity of creative writing using different types of music or
excerpts from films soundtracks.
As you listen to the music, close your eyes and picture a film scene in
your mind:
people, places, atmosphere, time of the day, historic period, setting,clothes...
What's happening? What's going to happen next?
After the clip is finished, write a detailed description of what you have
seen in your mind.
Write down everything and if you don't know the exact word, write it in
your own language.
In the end, after four or five minutes, listen to another clip of very
different music
and repeat the procedure.
Then, read your writings aloud with your classmate and enjoy your films.
Remember, it's creativity what matters in this exercise, not correction.
(This activity is taken from the book WRITING GAMES, by Jill and Charles
Hadfield)
6- WRITE TO THE JACQUES COUSTEAU SOCIETY
Jacques Cousteau was one of the men who devoted his life to the exploration
of the oceans in the world.
His legacy continues with the Jacques Cousteau Society and his videos and
documentaries of the sea world
are of excellent quality. www.cousteau.org
Why don't you write an email to the society asking for information about
a specific topic of your interest?
What about asking about pollution on the Mediterranean Sea?
How many blue whales are left in the world?
or about horrible abyss creatures?
Think of some questions and write your email. Then, exchange information
with your partners
