A LETTER OF ENCOURAGEMENT
After watching a film like HOTEL RWANDA you cannot stay the same person.
Why don't you write a letter to Paul Rusesabagina and his family?
You can thank him for his dignity, his bravery and his efforts helping so
many people. Tell him you will recommend the film and become a messenger of
his message to your friends and family.
CLASS PRESENTATION
Do some research on the Internet finding information about international
charities or groups that work for people in Africa. Get the information,
write a report and share it with the people in your class. Do an oral presentation
in English, explaining the main details of the organization, a description
of their work, how many people are working in which countries, and how can
we help them in their tasks.
DESPERATE PHONE
CALLS
In one part of the film, Paul Rusesabagina phones his boss in Belgiun
so that he can find a way to help them survive. Then, he tells his friend
to phone people in authority as if "they would die if they let go that phone
call"
Write down the phone calls those people made to their friends asking for
help.
Remember that real conversations took place and that they saved lives.
HATE RADIO- THE ROLE OF THE MEDIA
In the film, you have seen the evil role that the radio played inflaming
hatred
against the Tutsis in the Hutu community. Write an opinion essay
about the influence of the media in
our lives. Is it positive or negative? Are our television and radio stations
giving negative propaganda
against people, political parties or other communities? Are the messages
we receive positive or negative?
NEVER
AGAIN MANIFESTO
Write a class manifesto against genocides and racism
Create a poster and hang it up where you can see it and remember it
Live up to your manifesto and become a messenger against the attrocities
that happen around us every single day.
Make it clear and straightforward. Use simple and clear messages and make
it persuasive so that many people can adhere to it.

- BECOME A MESSENGER
DAFUR (SUDAN). A PRESENT DAY RWANDA
Not many people know about the conflicts in present-day Sudan. Many people
have been killed and many more will, but the international community doesn't
pay attention to a poor African country. Why not?
GET INVOLVED- Find information about the Sudanese
conflict and write a report about it. In groups, share it with your class,
think about it and work out how can you help a little in this big conflict.
Then, get ready to BECOME A MESSENGER.
Paul Rusesabagina once told a woman that she could become a messenger
to all her friends about the genocide in Rwanda, so that they became aware
of it. You can do the same with the Sudan conflict. You know about it, you
want to help, so it's time for you to become a messenger.
Share you thoughts about Sudan, with a minimum of 20 people, via emails,
letters, mobile phones. messenger, ... and try to make people aware of it.
Write to international organizations and newspapers so that we don't ignore
what is happening or what can happen in the future.
If 10 people in your class do the same, you can reach 200 people.
If 50 people in your school do the same, you can reach 1000 people.
That can make a difference. Remember Paul Rusesabagina's story.
One single person can make a difference. You can be that person, too.
GET INVOLVED
Are there any conflicts in the world today that are getting unnoticed?
Look for information and write posters or powerpoint presentations that
you can send to people.
In these presentations include this information:
-where the conflicts are happening.
-what groups of people are involved.
-who is trying to solve the conflict.
-how can we help people in those conflicts too.
