Some adjectives in English may look the same but have different meaning. If they end in –ING they are the source of the emotion, they provoke it. For example The Woman in Black is A FRIGHTENING film. The film is FRIGHTENING: it provokes horror. If the adjectives end in –ED, it means that they talk about an emotion SOMEONE has. For example, The students were FRIGHTENED when they saw the horror film. The students had the emotion of being frightened. They received that emotion. Now, read the following sentences and decide if the adjective must end in ING OR ED.
