The film is based on the autobiographical book by Waris Dirie. She is a Somalian nomad circumcised at 5 who was sold in marriage at 13. Dirie became an American supermodel and is now at the age of 38, the UN spokeswoman against circumcision. Waris Dirie became one of the most requested models of the time. She travelled a fascinating path to tread the most famous catwalks and appear on the cover of the top fashion magazines. At 13, she ran away from a marriage of convenience and walked days in the wilderness before reaching Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia. There, his parents sent her to work as a maid to the embassy of her country in London, where she spent adolescence. She preferred not to return to her country that was ravaged by war and remained illegally in London where she worked as a saleswoman. While working in a fast food restaurant, famous photographer Terry Donaldson discovered her.
