CARLOS CAÑEQUE, AN UNUSUAL CHARACTER
Media:
WATCH INTERVIEW WITH CARLOS CAÑEQUE
Premiere of the film The Camera Lucida. We have interviewed Carlos Cañeque, its director. As, among other activities, he is a professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, we thought that his opinion on youth could be interesting and, sure enough, it was.
Within his work, this versatile teacher has written several short stories, essays and novels books (he has won Premio Nadal, a Spanish literary prize awarded annually), and has directed some films where he also acts, as in The Camera Lucida.
In this film, a number of leading figures in different fields such as Roman Gubern, Santiago Carrillo and Fernando Savater, and other anonymous characters talk about different topics from a light-hearted and even transgressive perspective, I dare to say. These interviews are combined with fictional stories, which are performed by the same director, and where absurdity, irony, humour and sarcasm are their main elements.
Cañeque mixes two genres in such a way that, despite it could lead to chaos or disorder, he manages to convey coherence and cohesion to the story. In the movie, the same Cañeque also asks for advice to Berlanga (a famous Spanish film director) about his daring creation. At the same time, Dali and Buñuel influences are visible in this personal and risky proposal.
