INTERVIEW WITH CARLOS IGLESIAS, DIRECTOR OF THE FILM 2 FRANCS 40 PESETAS
Media:
After having been nominated as the best new director for the Spanish Goya Awards in 2006 and having reached a blockbuster with his film 1 franc, 14 pesetas, the director Carlos Iglesias has had the good sense to shoot 2 francs, 40 pesetas that is a sequel of the other one.
If the first film told the difficulties that Spanish emigrants in the 1960s had to face, portrayed by Martín and Marcos, in this second film Pablo, son of Martín, and his friend Juan travel to Switzerland to return to his childhood and lost paradise. With the excuse of the baptism of Marcos' daughter, Pablo's parents, who still keep a very fond memory of Switzerland, also visit the country that welcomed them in the past. The meeting with the friends they left there will let their so long silenced emotional feelings reveal in all their intensities. The characters will be caught in a vortex of light-hearted and hilarious situations.
In a simple and close way, this ensemble comedy gets us laugh without forgetting the underlying social message in their stories. Set in the 1970s, the social status of the characters keeps a certain parallelism with the current situation in Spain, especially that one of today's youth.
