Frances Ha Premiere
Media:
Frances Ha has been very well received in France. It could not be in a different way given the superb quality of French films. It is not only because the story takes place between New York and Paris, but also because watching the protagonist, Greta Gerwig who plays the role of an eternal teenager, is a real pleasure for the senses. The director, Noah Baumbach, has preferred black and white to colour. Apart from reminding us Woody Allen's early films, by doing that he achieves a patina of nostalgia and loneliness that is appropriate to the situation the protagonist lives.
Frances is a young 28-years-old girl who seeks for his dream of becoming a dancer. She lives with her friend Sophia in New York and tries to squeeze all the good moments life offers. She has a carefree, light-hearted character, and is full of energy and spontaneity. Her sympathy and generosity earn her friends everywhere. She avoids worries and has no interest in reaching maturity. But, unfortunately for her, she witnesses the changes her friends are undergoing while she is getting bogged down. This situation plunges her into a feeling of sadness and loneliness, but it also makes her think about her own life.
Portrait on the empty time when young people must find themselves and make their way through life, when dreams and projects overwhelm the brain, but only a few youths get success, when everything demands them to undertake the often difficult way to maturity.
Youth, friendship and optimism go hand in hand in this indie comedy that manages to capture emotions and feelings, and does it with a good rhythm that goes on until the end.
