This is a film suitable for the French class that has had a large number of viewers since it was first released in Spain on September 14th 2012.
Once again the French cinema shows its good health with this play adapted to the big screen by the same authors who wrote it. The film, a dramatic comedy, starts from a simple everyday story and culminates in a chain of misleading, absurd events and successive catharses where the fragility of friendship, family relationships, trust and betrayal are analysed.
A group of five childhood friends gather to have supper. "Patrick", the personification of the winner somewhat arrogant and conceited but with a great sense of humour, is about to become a father. When he is asked about the name of the baby, there is a conflict of opinions that ends up in verbal insults, accusations and personal attacks. But this outburst of long time hidden resentment is treated with so much irony and humour by the film script that the dramatic situation is minimized and becomes very funny.
This first confrontation puts all of them in such a bad mood that they are predisposed to quarrel even forcing the situation to somewhat absurd levels. Then we see a story full of wit, with continuous defiant scenes where the masks fall and the souls become naked; a film with intelligent dialogues, a good balance between comedy and drama and plenty of skilful gags which show us that, despite all the grudges held within us, true affection always emerges victorious from the disappointments that our loved ones can cause us. A real lesson of life!
