WIM WENDERS AT THE BCN FILM FEST 2023
Media:
Exciting press conference with the German director. He is 77 years old, continues to be excited about making films, and shows signs of great clarity of thought. Although I missed a few minutes of his speech in which interesting things were also said, here are some phrases that best define him.
- Writers are lonely people. I don't like to be a writer just because I would have to be alone in front of the computer or a typewriter, and I need to talk to someone.
- COVID has changed the world, the feeling of seeking the truth. We disagree on what this truth is. The good old days will not return.
- I am thinking of making a film about the idea of peace. Without it, there is no common good.
- I am an eternal optimist. Only optimists can change the world (here, I disagree...). I am curious to know how Woody Allen does it.
- As a child, I wanted to be an architect, a painter, a musician. I was a painter when I made my first film, and I realized that all art forms had a place in the cinema. I chose the paint.
An anecdote from Paris, Texas:
I told Nastassja Kinski she had to learn to speak with a Texas accent. She was very nervous. But a miracle happened: Dean Stanton was even more nervous than her because he said that he didn't have time to learn all the text, Nastassja helped him memorize it.
